Beautiful images Gery ... love the one with the rain in particular. As to where walking around at night, yeh - I've never worried too much about it - I suppose many years in London have toughened me up and made me savvy. I think the secret is to never be complacent or an idiot - you just make sure you keep alert. Cornwall, in comparison, is a breeze ...

Same for me: I grew in Brussels, compared to that Gent is super secure.

Me, too, Richard, the rain photo.

Nice piece, stunning black and white work!

I'm from Mexico City and that's a big no for us. Since I moved to Europe 20 years ago and living in Spain, Croatia and now England, it's never been a problem as long as one is always alert but I've heard stories from close friends and relatives.

thanks for the compliment, Xavi. Mexico he? I only can imagine. I have some experience walking around at night in the hot barrios of Brussels (Molenbeek, Zwarte Vijvers), but I was always accompanied by a Moroccan friend who lives there and never had a real unsafe moment. I wouldn't do it on my own, since most of the ppl I met thought I'm a cop at first. In other shabby neighbourhoods I mostly show my camera, the kind of pictures I take and the outcome is mostly always I end up photographing them. On one occasion I had to push and swing my way out: a 14 year old kid with a knife, high on speed, but he was retained by his friends who in the end beat him down. And then I took their gang picture and afterwards sent it to them :D

Wow, what a story! Yeah, you never know and the streets are the greatest teachers for situations like this. It's all about body language, eye contact and keeping your cool.
